Hidden Walkway

As the snow melted, I started to notice a few places in our front yard where there were rocks poking through the dirt.  Last Sunday evening, I decided to investigate and ended up digging up an entire walkway made of large flat stones!  They were covered by about 3 inches of dirt.  I don't know why the former owners would have let their walkway become covered in dirt, but I'm glad to find out we already have a nice walkway and don't have to build one.

Guessing Game

Today I took some time to walk around the yard and see what might be popping up.  There are several plants starting to grow, but I'm not sure what they are.  Here are some photos.  Do any of you recognize the plants?  I've made a few guesses.

Tulips?

Chives?

Strawberries?

Sawdust In My Coffee

Our little house is beginning to look like a home.  We put up the last of the "hardware," ie, curtain rods, drawer pulls and our over-the-stove microwave.  Our good friends, Doug and Kylee, just happened to have an extra one, which they gave to us; and we really appreciate it.

While there is still much to do, I feel like we can take a break from working on the house.  We still need to put in new counter tops in the kitchen, but what we have is working for now.  Here are a few photos of how the house is coming along ~

Outside, Spring is definitely here!  I am beginning to see all kinds of plants and flowers coming up in the yard.  It looks like we have strawberries, and I am just going to watch and wait and find out what else we have!

~~ I'll sign off today with a photo of T. and our daughter enjoying the lovely weather.

Discovery

As the snow melts (and it is almost gone), we are discovering all kinds of treasures.  We have found a double-bitted axe, a clevis, a shop vise, an antique hoof knife, two wheel barrows, a pitchfork, and an adze to name a few.  Do you know what all of those things are?  I didn't know, until T. told me. (=  We have also come upon six stepping stones that were obscured by long grass in the yard.

Today, after work, T. walked around the property taking pictures of all the fences that need repair.  I think we have quite a bit of work cut out for us this summer!

I don't know what other people see when they look at this, but I see beauty.  I love the colors and smells of fir trees and sage.  I love seeing moss growing in the trees and on fence posts.  And I especially love solitude.  It is so good to come home to our little place each evening and enjoy these things.
